For days now, supporters of the suspended priest who is vying for the governorship ticket of All Progressives Congress, APC in Benue State, Hyacinth Alia have been on rampage in open trucks on the streets of Makurdi insulting their opponents with profane and offensive songs.
One of the songs says “pati ka tswar ga” meaning that politics is not anus. The unruly supporters of the priest do not stop at insulting their opponents with debasing and repulsive songs but also harass other road users all in the name of Alia. As far as they are concerned, Alia will be governor by whichever crooked means, whether anyone likes it or not. Some of them were sighted throwing sachet water on pedestrians along Iyorchia Ayu road in Makurdi. They constantly rain insults on other APC governorship aspirants who have petitioned against the party’s primaries such as Chief Barnabas Gemade, Chief Mike Aondoakaa and Prof Terhemba Shija. The only ‘sin’ of those aspirants is that they have rejected the rigged election that Alia was unscrupulously announced as the winner amid wide condemnations and protests.
Many observers are wondering why a reverend man has not only accepted a forged election result but has also instructed his supporters to go wild and insult anyone who raises a finger in objection. Is that how he intends to lead Benue if elected?
Tell me why Benue people will trust such a desperate man with their mandate. If his supporters can go berserk, throw caution to the wind and spew vitriol on members of the public now that the man is nowhere near Government House, what will they not do if he becomes governor?
That sad scenario of Alia supporters’ rampage has been going on for some days but there is no word of caution, condemnation or rebuke from the priest’s campaign organization. He apparently has approved the shameful outing of his supporters.
The conduct of supporters of the priest has however not come as a shock to those who have keenly followed the man from his days as a priest to when he was suspended for his contumacy and now. Remember how he came out and mocked His Lordship Bishop Williams Avenya and cast jest upon his suspension. Alia described his suspension as “a normal thing”. Really? For a man who took the sacred vows to serve God as a priest but later abandoned priesthood to pursue worldly pleasures in power and politics to come out and say what Alia said should tell us the type of man the priest is. He thought all of us are as naive and uneducated as those miscreants he has recruited to be singing vulgar songs and insulting innocent people on the streets. Imagine Govt House in the hands of such a man. Thuggery and all manner of immoral activities will return to the seat of power.
Thanks Heavens that APC in Benue State have used their owns hands to block their chances of presenting a governorship candidate for the 2023 elections. The streets will be free from lascivious and filthy songs of Alia’s supporters.
When the reality of he not being on the 2023 governorship ballot hits him, Alia’s biggest dilemma will be what happens thereafter. He surely can’t go back so soon to face the Bishop and the church whom he recently mocked. He did not only violate the Cannon Law but also spat on its pages.
Who will listen to the priest? He lied against the church and happily received a stolen guber ticket from Akume.
It will be a loss on all fronts for the renegade priest.
