One hoodlum was killed on Tuesday during an attack on the Dangote Refinery located in the Lekki Free Trade Zone of Lagos.

Dangote Refinery is an oil refinery owned by the Dangote Group that is under construction in Lekki, Nigeria. Dangote Group was founded by Aliko Dangote, Africa’s richest man.

The Lagos State Police Command made this known in a statement on Tuesday.

The spokesperson for the command, Benjamin Hundeyin, in a statement titled ‘Police Foil Attack On Dangote Refinery’, said the police engaged the hoodlums in a shootout, leading to the killing of one of them.

The statement read, “Security operatives in the early hours of yesterday, Monday, March 28, 2022, foiled an attempted attack on Dangote Refinery, Lekki Free Trade Zone, Lagos.

“Armed hoodlums numbering about twenty who gained access to the refinery through the lagoon side were repelled while attempting to cart away already-installed armoured cables in the refinery.

“The hoodlums on sighting security operatives fled the scene. One of the hoodlums was hit in the ensuing gunfire and died on the way to the hospital.

“Investigation has commenced with a view to arresting the fleeing attackers.”
