No fewer than 33 Nigerian soldiers have been allegedly killed by a faction of the terrorist sect, Boko Haram, the Islamic State West Africa Province, ISWAP, in Borno state.
22 soldiers were also alleged to have sustained various degrees of injuries after hoodlums ambushed Nigerian troops in Monguno area of the state.
This was contained in a statement released by ISWAP on Saturday.
The group attached pictures showing about 15 bodies of dead military officers as well as seven operational vehicles, military hardware and ammunitions the group captured from the Nigerian army to the statement.
This is coming despite repeated claims by the Nigerian military that Boko Haram and its offshoot, Islamic State West Africa Province had been largely defeated and frequently underplays any losses.
It would be recall that in the past months, the insurgents have targeted soldiers who lay ambush on their path with at least 33 soldiers recently killed when two explosive-laden vehicles rammed into a military convoy in Wulgo.
In February, about 20 soldiers were also killed in Malari, Borno State, by the insurgents.
