The Ebonyi state command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) says it rescued a woman from suspected kidnappers near Abakaliki, the Ebonyi state capital.
Stella Uchegbu, Ebonyi sector commander, in a statement on Thursday, said the corps patrol team at Igbeagu, Izzi local government area, foiled the alleged kidnap attempt if one female commuter at Sharon junction, on Wednesday.
According to NAN, Uchegbu said the patrol team noticed the woman screaming for help inside a Toyota Avensis car, while also dragging the steering wheel with the driver.
“The team successfully rescued a woman whom the suspected kidnappers held captive in a Toyota Avensis car, heading for Ogoja in Cross River from Abakaliki,” she said.
“The team noticed that a woman was screaming for help inside the vehicle and dragging the steering [wheel] with the driver.
“On sensing danger, the team quickly responded and engaged its vehicle’s siren and succeeded in rescuing the woman.”
She noted that the driver of the vehicle was apprehended by the team, while other occupants escaped.
She added that the sum of N160,000 forcefully collected from the woman by the suspected kidnappers was returned to her.
“The patrol team also recovered the sum of N160,000, which the woman said the suspected kidnappers forcefully collected from her,” Uchegbu said.
“The team took the suspect and the woman to the police headquarters in Abakaliki, while the money was returned to the woman.
“The vehicle used for the alleged operation was also handed over to the police.”
