Fresh details have emerged regarding the demolition of Oladam’s Place, a popular bar and restaurant located in the GRA area of Makurdi, Benue State.

IDOMA VOICE reports that the structure was pulled down on Friday on the orders of Governor Hyacinth Alia.

The owner, Hon. Samuel Onuh, confirmed the development to IDOMA VOICE on Saturday, stating that the governor issued the directive after visiting the area and observing that a government-owned tree in front of the bar had been trimmed.

He explained that he did not cut the tree, as alleged, but only trimmed its long branches, which provided shade for his customers.

According to Onuh, the governor became enraged during the visit and immediately called in officials of the Urban Development department, instructing them to demolish the building.

He further alleged that when the officials arrived, they confronted his manager, beat him severely, and took him away.

“I don’t even know where they took him to,” he said.

“How can I cut a tree that is serving me? We only trimmed the branches, and the governor didn’t even allow us to collect our belongings. I have been doing some renovation in the bar and spent a lot to upgrade it within the week, only to be shocked by this act. Life goes on,” he told IDOMA VOICE.

Onuh is a former chairman of Ogbadigbo LGA, a chieftain of the APC, and is currently contesting for the Benue South Senate seat.
