How I lost my sight, battled kidney disease after living abroad – DJ Jimmy Jatt

Nigerian disc jockey Oluwaforijimi Amu, widely known as DJ Jimmy Jatt, has revealed that he lost his sight in 2020.

The veteran DJ shared his story during a recent episode of Channels TV’s Rubbin’ Minds, hosted by Ebuka Obi-Uchendu.

He recounted how he was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease after undergoing surgery to restore his vision. DJ Jimmy Jatt explained that his health challenges began after he decided to explore life outside Nigeria, having spent most of his years in Lagos.

“In 2019, I made a decision to spend more time outside Nigeria. I wanted to experience Europe, America, and other parts of the world,” he said. “But in 2020, I started facing health issues. With the travel restrictions at the time, I stayed in Nigeria. I lost my sight and had to undergo surgery to regain it.”

After recovering, he resumed his plans to live abroad and relocated to the United States. While there, he was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease, which required dialysis. He eventually returned to Nigeria for a kidney transplant and took time off to recover fully.

“Even after the transplant, I continued DJing across America and Europe,” he added. “But in December, I decided to come back home to Nigeria.”

Addressing misconceptions about kidney disease, DJ Jimmy Jatt clarified that it’s not always linked to lifestyle choices. “I’ve never smoked and stopped drinking alcohol long ago,” he noted, attributing his condition to diabetes. He also stressed the importance of health awareness and proper management.
