Nigerian singer, Adewale Mayowa Emmanuel, popularly known as Mayorkun, has revealed that iconic singer and rapper, Olamide inspired him.
In a recent Snapchat video showcasing his freestyling skills, the artist behind “Cheche” explained how Olamide’s artistry has influenced his songwriting.
Mayorkun acknowledged that Olamide, also known as “Baddo,” enlightened him on the idea that compelling songwriting doesn’t always have to be in English.
He captioned the video with, “Na Baddo [Olamide] make me know say pen game no be by English o! IYKVK.”
It’s worth noting that Mayorkun gained prominence in 2016 when he released a cover of Davido’s “The Money,” featuring Olamide. This rendition caught Olamide’s attention on X (formerly Twitter).
Davido signed him to his record label, DMW where he released his debut single, ‘Eleko’ and became an instant star.
Two years later, he won the highly coveted Next Rated category at The Headies which solidified his stardom.
In 2021, Mayorkun parted ways with Davido Music Worldwide, DMW.
