The Police in Nasarawa State have allegedly arrested, brutalised and detained over 27 Benue State natives currently schooling with Nasarawa State Polytechnic, Lafia.
The incident occurred last Thursday when students of Nasarawa State Polytechnic protested over a sudden school fees increment imposed on both old and new students, after all negotiations failed.
The arrest, brutalisation, according to the Director, Media & Publicity, CTS Worldwide, Comrade Tema paul, occurred when all students left the school premises, as the security later broke the homes of Tiv students, arrested them at night with thorough beating & took them to detention immediately.
He said, “It is noted that, the protest was a call to at least, reduce or exempt year 2 students from the increment which all students voiced out, but sanctions melted on Tiv Students only & are to be denied admission henceforth.
“The National President of the Community of Tiv Students, Comr Akaater Msughter Michael, has appeared to intervene and is calling on the Benue State Commissioner for Education, prof
Dennis A. Ityavyar, SSA on students Affairs, Hon Comr
Anngu Orngu Anngu to rescue.
“The National CTS president also calls on Mdzough U Tiv Worldwide, all concerned authorities, personalities and the Benue State Government to please rescue the detained students from the hands of captivity.”
