How Police inspector shot, killed fellow inspector in Abia community

A police Inspector identified as Ugwor Samuel who is attached to a member of the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Ginger Onwusibe, has reportedly been shot dead by his colleague.

It was gathered that the deceased Inspector was shot dead by his fellow policeman, Inspector Atule Benedict, who is also attached to the same lawmaker, Onwusibe on Sunday at Umuahia, the state capital.

An aide to the lawmaker who witnessed the incident told newsmen that the trouble started when the deceased had a misunderstanding with his colleague over a comment on the attitude of Inspector Atule.

“Atule reacted angrily and there was an altercation which led Inspector Atule to take his gun and shoot the deceased Inspector,” the aide said.

The aide who spoke on condition of anonymity said efforts to disarm Atule by other policemen in their team failed, and that he threatened to kill “more policemen if they come close to him”.

Meanwhile, the suspect later escaped with his AK-47 rifle before reportedly handing himself over to the state police command in Umuahia, where he was immediately detained.

A security source who confirmed the incident to saying the inspector was being detained at the State Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department (CIID).

According to the source, the state police commissioner has directed a thorough investigation into the incident to unravel the circumstances that led to the killing.

The remains of the deceased have been deposited at the Federal Medical Centre in Umahia.

The spokesman for the police command, DSP Geoffrey Ogbonna, when contacted over the incident, did not confirm or deny the incident.
