How Salah donated $156,634 to help rebuild church in Giza, Egypt

Egyptian Liverpool forward, Mohammed Salah has donated $156,634 to help rebuild a church in Giza, Egypt where a fire killed 41 people and left 14 others injured according to health ministry sources on Sunday.

According to Egypt’s Interior Ministry, the fire started at about 9 a.m. local time due to an electrical failure in an air conditioning unit on the church’s second floor. The small church is located in the highly populated Imbaba neighborhood.

Most of the deaths and injuries were caused by smoke inside church classrooms after the electrical failure, the ministry said in a Facebook post.

“We are in continuous contact with the local authorities and the Health Ministry,” the head of the Coptic Church, Pope Tawadros II, said, according to the church spokesperson.”

Salah’s donation was confirmed by prominent Egyptian sports reporter, Ibrahim Abdel Gawad, who joined many others in thanking Salah in a Facebook post.

This isn’t the first time the former Chelsea and Fiorentina forward has shown how big a heart he has.

He was ranked by UK newspaper The Sunday Times as the eighth most charitable person in Britain. Salah donated $3 million to Egypt’s National Cancer Institute in 2019 after a terrorist attack killed 20, and injured dozens.
