The police in Adamawa State have arrested one Abdulkarim Adamu, 18, for allegedly stabbing his 21-year-old friend, known as Ayuba Hassan, to death during a fight over a mobile phone.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Suleima Nguroje, in a statement disclosed the unfortunate incident occurred on Tuesday, April 14, in Mubi North LGA of the state.
According to the suspect, who allegedly confessed to the crime, him, the deceased, and two of their friends, had gone to bed after a failed attempt by them to steal jerrycans containing fuel at a particular filling station in the town.
However, he woke up in the night but realised his mobile phone worth N55,000 was missing. His two friends told him only Ayuba visited the house while he was asleep. But when he confronted Ayuba the next day, he denied taking the phone.
A heated argument ensued and the duo, accompanied by their two friends, agreed to go to the riverside and fight. Abdulkarim claimed that on their way to the riverside, Ayuba threw a stone at him, prompting him to pull out a knife and stab him twice in the hand and chest.
