Former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode recently shared his insights on a crucial matter concerning Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the potential consequences of military intervention in West Africa.
In a recent statement, Fani-Kayode expressed deep concerns about the ongoing conflict in Gaza, drawing parallels to historical instances of extensive devastation during World War II. He vividly portrayed the horrors of war, emphasizing the suffering, loss of life, and destruction it entails.
Fani-Kayode underscored the sobering reality that the impact of war should never be underestimated, regardless of one’s stance on a particular conflict. He described the distressing scenes of human suffering, especially among innocent civilians, and conveyed his empathy for the victims.
He then shifted his focus to a hypothetical scenario involving Nigeria and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). Fani-Kayode argued that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s wisdom and restraint averted a potentially catastrophic military engagement. According to him, Western powers were pressuring Nigeria to lead an ECOWAS Intervention Force in a war against Niger, Burkina Faso, and Mali. He contended that such a conflict would have been brutal and devastating, akin to the recent events in Gaza.
Fani-Kayode suggested that without Tinubu’s intervention, West Africa might have plunged into a senseless and relentless war, resulting in widespread death, displacement, and suffering for the region’s population. He also highlighted the global indifference that might have prevailed as the conflict unfolded.
