Afrobeats star Stanley Omah Didia, better known as Omah Lay, has shared how his stint in a Ugandan prison has profoundly influenced his life and career.

In December 2020, Omah Lay and Tems were arrested and detained in Uganda for performing at a concert in violation of COVID-19 regulations at Speke Resort, Kampala. They were held for three days before being granted bail.

In a recent interview with Amazon Music, Omah Lay revealed that his time in jail reshaped his appreciation for freedom. He explained that the experience deepened his love for freedom, which now resonates in his music.

“After spending those three days in a cell, I cherish my freedom so much more and channel that into every record I make. While I don’t want to overly credit Uganda for the experience, it definitely changed my perspective on freedom,” said the ‘Soso’ hitmaker.
