‘I am ashamed of you’ — Activist Meddy Olotu drags Apa/Agatu lawmaker Ojotu Ojema over ‘no APC membership card, no job’ comment
Popular Benue activist and humanitarian worker, Meddy Olotu, has criticised the member of the House of Representatives representing Apa/Agatu Federal Constituency, Ojotu Ojema, over his recent comment that only those with membership cards of the All Progressives Congress may benefit from job and admission opportunities under the current administration.
IDOMA VOICE reports that while addressing members of the National Association of Agatu Students, Ojema, who is also a pastor, urged residents and students to register and obtain their party membership cards to position themselves for future opportunities.
The lawmaker, who is seeking a second term in office, said: “The party that is good for us in Agatu, the one that will carry me along and help our people here, is All Progressives Congress. If you know it is not just about politics but about opportunities, get your APC card and be a member. Go and collect it, because tomorrow when you are looking for admission into a school, remember that the president of this country belongs to APC.
“If you are not in APC and job opportunities come, nobody may consider you if your NIN is not registered with APC. You may lose the opportunity. Don’t let anybody deceive you — follow APC.”
Responding, Olotu described Ojema’s comment as unfortunate and undemocratic.
Clad in his native Idoma traditional attire and holding a gong, the outspoken activist said:
“Our elders say, if an action does not shame you, it should at least humble you. The comment by Ojotu Ojema, let me remove ‘pasto’ from his name, what you told Agatu students is shameful. Saying those without APC membership cards will be denied admission or job opportunities is not what should come from a leader.
“The other day, you claimed God told you to join APC. Forcing students to join APC is unfortunate. So, those who are not members of APC will no longer breathe?
“If the way your voice is loud while campaigning for APC is how you are vocal against killings in Apa/Agatu in the chamber, the area would have experienced peace. You are so concerned about 2027, and you call yourself a pastor. Maybe the next thing you will tell us is that if we don’t vote for APC, we won’t make heaven.
“Nobody is against you campaigning, but stop misleading people. That comment is shameful and should not be coming from a leader.”
