‘I could’ve stopped Fubara from becoming Rivers Gov’ – Wike to Clark

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has refuted allegations that he planned to instigate the impeachment of Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, with the intention of replacing him with another Ikwerre individual as the state’s governor.

Wike addressed this issue for the first time since the impeachment plot became public, asserting that he possessed the authority to prevent Fubara from becoming governor if he did not wish to see him succeed in that role.

While the precise reasons for the breakdown of the political relationship between Fubara and Wike remain unclear, the minister stated on Tuesday that the issues surrounding the planned impeachment were not based on ethnicity but were instead a matter internal to the political party.

Wike’s response followed accusations by Chief Edwin Clark, leader of the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), and the Ijaw National Congress (INC), which alleged his involvement in the impeachment plot.

Clark called on President Bola Tinubu to intervene and address Wike’s actions, while the INC warned that the Ijaw nation would take decisive action if Fubara faced impeachment.
