I did not buy APC national chairmanship nomination form for Akume – Lawani

A former Deputy Governor of Benue State and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Steve Lawani, has denied purchasing the APC national chairmanship nomination form for George Akume.

Akume, a former governor of Benue State and current federal minister is eyeing the APC chairmanship seat.

IDOMA VOICE recalls that the APC had pegged its chairmanship nomination form at N20m.
However, there were reports on social media that Lawani had purchased the form for Akume.

Lawani is one of the leading APC governorship aspirants.

Reacting to the report, Comrade Sylvanus Okpe, Media and Communications Director, Lawani Campaign Organization (LACO), said the report is untrue and should be discarded in its entirety.

Okpe attributed the story to detractors.

The statement reads below.

The attention of the Lawani Campaign Organization (LACO), has been drawn to a report making the rounds that its principal, Chief Stephen Lawani, OFR, has purchased the APC national chairmanship nomination form for the leader of APC in Benue State and Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, Senator Dr George Akume.
The above information is false, misleading and lacking in substance.
To set the record straight, we wish to state as follows:
1. That at no time did Chief Lawani by himself or through any of his aides, claimed to have purchased the APC national chairmanship nomination form for Senator Dr. George Akume.
2. That Chief Stephen Lawani, OFR, joined other elders and stakeholders of the party, from across the country, who believes in the capacity of Senator George Akume to steer the affairs of the ruling party with excellence and equanimity, to the national secretariat of the party where Senator Akume’s nomination form was obtained.
3. That Chief Lawani’s support for Senator George Akume regarding the APC national chairmanship contest is unwavering, and no amount of misinformation, fake news and blackmail will deter his resolute resolve on seeing Senator Akume emerge as the National Chairman of APC come March 26th, 2022.
We also wish to alert the general public to be vigilant as political detractors, who are already jittery of the soaring acceptability of Chief Stephen Lawani, OFR, are on the prowl to plant misinformation and blackmail against his person, with the ultimate aim of narrowing his widening chances.
Consequently, we urge the general public to always cross-check with the Lawani Campaign Organization (LACO) on any information regarding our principal so as not to fall victim to fake news and misinformation.
