President Bola Tinubu issued instructions to the State House security office to prevent unauthorized persons, including his son Seyi Tinubu, from disrupting the proceedings of the federal executive council meetings. The president expressed his concerns about the undue access and unauthorized presence of individuals during the council meetings, which are convened weekly to discuss national matters of utmost importance.
In response to this situation, President Tinubu emphasized that such activities must cease immediately, asserting that unauthorized individuals must not be allowed to breach the council’s proceedings. He specifically referenced a photograph he had seen of his son, Seyi, seated in the council chambers, deeming it unacceptable.
“Last week, I noticed the undue access of people sneaking in and out of this council,” Mr Tinubu said as the executive council was called to order on Monday. “I saw the photograph of my son, Seyi, sitting behind the cubicle there. That is not acceptable.”
To address this issue, the president outlined the aides who would be permitted to participate in the meetings. These individuals include Hadiza Usman, adviser on policy; Bayo Onanuga, information adviser; Hakeem Muri-Okunola, principal secretary; and Damilotun Aderemi, private secretary. President Tinubu made it clear that these are the only individuals granted permission to be present during the deliberations of national affairs unless they have been specifically summoned.
The president instructed the cabinet secretary, George Akume, to ensure that these instructions are carried out, underscoring that no one else would be allowed to access or sit in the Council Chambers, apart from the specified individuals.
This directive may have implications for the perceived influence and access Seyi Tinubu has been associated with since he accompanied his father to Abuja. Despite not holding any official position in the administration, he has been seen on the president’s private jet and has been credited with influencing government policies. His use of a presidential jet to travel to Kano earlier this month caused embarrassment to both the president and other State House officials.
Seyi Tinubu did not immediately respond to a request for comment regarding his father’s actions.
