Guinea Bissau vs Super Eagles clash: I won’t invite new players – Peseiro
Super Eagles coach, Jose Peseiro, says he has no plans to invite new players for September’s 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Guinea Bissau but give those who could help the team a chance.
The 62-year-old coach explained that he remains focused on improving his team ahead of their 2023 AFCON tournament in Ivory Coast and is desperate to impart his ideas to his young Eagles squad.
Peseiro led the Eagles to their biggest win in history when they thrashed Sao Tome and Principe 10-0 in qualifying for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, surpassing a 10-1 triumph over Benin in 1959.
Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, who is a target for Arsenal this transfer window, scored four goals, with three of those coming after the half-time interval.
Terem Moffi, who plays his club football for Lorient in France, recorded a brace, with Moses Simon, Oghenekaro Etebo, Ademola Lookman and Emmanuel Dennis all scoring once.
The win saw Nigeria join holders Senegal, Algeria, Burkina Faso, Mali and Morocco with two wins from their first two qualifiers, with the next two rounds of matches scheduled for September.
The Eagles lead Group A by six points, two ahead of Guinea-Bissau, who had to settle for a 2-2 draw against Sierra Leone on Monday despite leading 2-0 early in the second half after a brace from Jorginho.
Nigeria will be hoping to reach the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, which is scheduled to take place in Ivory Coast between June 23 and July 23 next summer.
