I hold no grievance with Alia – SGF, Akume
Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, affirmed his harmonious rapport with Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, during a gathering on October 16, 2023.
Addressing attendees at the burial of Chief Haar Orpin, an elder statesman and prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Gboko, Akume expressed that there would be significant benefits for the state’s residents if he and the governor cooperated.
He called on the people to support both of them in their efforts to deliver democratic dividends to Benue State. Chief Simon Shango, representing Akume at the event, acknowledged Chief Orpin’s unwavering support as a member of the APC elders’ forum.
Akume lamented that the timing of Orpin’s passing was unfortunate, as his wise counsel was sorely needed. He offered prayers for the eternal rest of the departed soul. Governor Alia, in his response, welcomed SGF Akume’s affirmation of a crisis-free relationship and pledged to continue working harmoniously with Akume for the benefit of the state.
Alia eulogized the late Chief Orpin as a unifier and devout Christian who promoted peace, emphasizing that his approach was a guiding principle for the APC.
The governor also noted Chief Orpin’s role in fostering unity within the Jemgbagh community and highlighted the wisdom of his open-door policy. Alia reiterated his commitment to collaborating with SGF Akume and other political leaders to accelerate the state’s development.
