I joined banditry to avenge the killing of my parents, wives and children – Repentant bandit, Amadu Katare

Amadu Katare, one of the repentant bandits who surrendered their weapons to the Zamafara Government on Sunday, says he became a bandit because his parents, wives, and children were killed.

Katare who made this statement after he surrendered his weapon at the State Government chamber in Gusau, Zamfara State Capital, revealed that that many people who joined banditry were majorly due to their relatives’ extra-judicial killings.

“Since the coming of Governor Bello Mohammed Matawalle and the introduction of his peace movement, we have been following developments to see if it was another deceit, and we have studied the movement and decided to ceasefire,” he said.

Katare, speaking further, appeals to the federal and state government to focus on the security of the Fulani people who are being killed daily.

“I am appealing to the state government to ensure that there is justice and the only way to restore peace is to desist from treating the Fulani people like third-class citizens.”

The outlawed Yansaki members escalated banditry activities in the state, stating that the Yansaki people are still fighting and attacking the Fulani people for unknown reasons, Katare reveals.

He insists that he would encourage other Fulani bandits to embrace peace and drop their weapons.

“There will never be any peace in any society if injustice continues to reign supreme,” he said.
