‘I regret disappointing Tope Alabi’ – Actor Olaiya Igwe

Veteran Nollywood actor Olaiya Igwe has expressed deep regret over disappointing popular gospel singer Tope Alabi on her wedding day.

In a recent interview with Baba Ibe TV, Igwe recounted how he failed to fulfill a promise he made to the singer and her husband, Soji Alabi, years ago.

According to him, the couple had asked to use his newly acquired luxury car as their official wedding ride, and he had agreed. However, he later had second thoughts and ignored their calls on the wedding day, ultimately failing to deliver on his promise.

Recalling the events, he explained that he had just purchased a Mercedes-Benz “V Boot” after the success of his movie Ololade Mr Money. However, during a trip to Ibadan, the vehicle was briefly stolen by armed robbers before being recovered. This incident made him reconsider lending the car to Tope Alabi, fearing it could be stolen again.

“She came to my house in Abeokuta and requested to use my car for their wedding, and I agreed. But later, I thought, ‘What if robbers take the car from them?’ So, a day before the wedding, I stopped answering her calls and didn’t give her the car. I disappointed Tope Alabi,” he admitted.

Despite seeking forgiveness from the singer in a professional meeting in Ogun State, Igwe confessed that he still feels guilty about his actions.

“Tope Alabi now has countless luxury cars, some of which I can’t even afford. But up till today, I still feel pain for offending her. My greatest regret is disappointing Tope Alabi,” he concluded.
