I spent three and a half years in my mother’s womb – Amosun share birth story

Former Ogun State Governor Ibikunle Amosun recently shared a miraculous account of his birth, revealing that his late mother carried him for three and a half years. He made this statement during a 25th-year remembrance prayer for his mother at the family home in Abeokuta.

Recalling the skepticism surrounding his birth, Amosun noted that many people doubted his humanity due to the unusually extended gestation period. His mother, Alhaja Sanusi-Amosun, passed away on October 27, 1999.

Amosun described how his father, initially concerned about the unusual pregnancy, had even made arrangements to buy fuel for cremation in case he did not survive childbirth. “I spent three and a half years in my mother’s womb. My father, who was not present at the time, even planned to arrange for fuel to burn my body if I did not make it,” he said.

When he was finally born, many people were so astonished that they fled, unable to believe he was a human being. “But here I am today, alive and well,” he added.

Emphasizing the significance of honoring one’s parents, Amosun stated that remembrance and prayer are essential, a principle reflected in both the Quran and the Bible. “Beyond respecting our parents when they are no longer around, the best gift we can offer them is prayer,” he explained, highlighting that the 25th anniversary was a special occasion for seeking forgiveness for his mother’s soul.

Reflecting on the importance of this milestone, he remarked, “We chose to make it slightly more elaborate—not a celebration, but a gathering to seek Allah’s forgiveness on her behalf.”

Amosun’s elder brother, Alhaji Abidoye Amosun, corroborated the story, recalling that their father had sent a traditional naming gift with specific names three days before the naming ceremony. He also praised his brother’s unwavering support within the family, saying, “He’s been a blessing, always there to help whenever we need him.”

Urging prayers for his mother and all departed souls, Amosun expressed his hope that his family would one day do the same for him. “We pray Allah forgives them and grants them Al Jannah Firdausi,” he concluded.

The remembrance event was attended by Islamic leaders from Egbaland and beyond, as well as former aides who had worked with Amosun during his time in office.
