‘I stood up for my team – Osayi-Samuel opens up on Trabzonspor fans altercation

Super Eagles defender, Bright Osayi-Samuel, has addressed the altercation that occurred after the match between Fenerbahce and Trabzonspor, where he found himself in a physical confrontation with some fans.

Following Fenerbahce’s 3-2 victory in the Turkish Super Lig encounter, fans from Trabzonspor invaded the pitch and attempted to attack Fenerbahce players. In the midst of this chaos, Osayi-Samuel took action by defending himself and his teammates, resorting to physical measures against the aggressive fans.

In a statement reported by Bein Sports, Osayi-Samuel defended his actions, particularly highlighting the aspect of self-defense. He emphasized the seriousness of the situation, stating, “Some people say what I did was not self-defense. If someone comes at you with a knife in his hand, how can this not be self-defense? They came to the field from the stands.”

The defender explained that his primary concern was to protect his team and friends who were also facing threats and attacks during the chaotic post-match scene. Osayi-Samuel revealed that many of his teammates suffered cuts and bruises as a result of the fan invasion, further justifying his response.
