I will no longer travel overseas – Ortom


Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, yesterday announced the cancellation of his scheduled trip to Germany and the United States of America which would have commenced today.

He made the disclosure at a thanksgiving service in honor of Mr. Justice Augustine Ityonyiman at the NKST Church, Yaikyo, in Makurdi.

Governor Ortom stated that he cancelled the trip on account of the financial challenges confronting the state especially the inability to pay salaries as at when due saying the N21 million which was the cost of the ten day trip would be saved.

He said the money already paid to him would be refunded to the coffers of the state government.

According to him, his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Terver Akase, and Senior Special Assistant on Diaspora, Rev Peter Ichull, would represent him at the events in Germany and the US.

The Governor announced an increase in the Federal allocation to the state this month and promised to ensure the completion of payment of February as well as payment of March salaries for state government workers and February salary of local government staff.

He appealed to members of the public to assist the law enforcement agencies in intelligence gathering in order to combat crime in the state even as he urged indigenes to exploit what he described as the abundant agricultural potentials of the state.


The Governor described the celebrant as deserving of his elevation saying he had reaped the benefits of dedicating his life to God and his hard work.

Chief Judge of the state, Justice Iorhemen Hwande said the celebrant who started work as a clerk under him excelled in the career and was the unanimous choice of other High Court judges for elevation.

Mr. Justice Ityonyiman expressed gratitude to God for helping him to have a fulfilled career as well as a stable family blessed with five children.
