I will pay Benue workers new N70,000 minimum wage – Gov Alia

Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has assured workers in the state that his administration is prepared to pay the new minimum wage of N70,000.

Addressing journalists in Makurdi, the state capital, Alia emphasized his administration’s commitment to worker welfare and financial responsibility.

The governor highlighted that his administration has taken significant steps to block financial leakages, making it feasible to implement the new wage.

“Though with a harsh economy, things have been stagnated, but with all the plans and measures in place for things to function, things are moving. Even our internally generated revenue has increased,” Alia stated.

He further explained that by closing all financial loopholes, the state can ensure sufficient funds to meet the new wage requirements and address other financial obligations.

“We can pay the minimum wage with our focus. With all purpose and intent, what is agreed upon by the Federal Government, we the sub-nationals should be able to queue in today,” Alia added.

Emphasizing the importance of the workforce, the governor remarked, “Without the workforce, any government will not have any centeredness of governance. So, we need to pay our civil servants with what is approved by the Federal Government and organized labour.”

Governor Alia’s assurance comes in the wake of President Bola Tinubu’s approval of a N70,000 national minimum wage during a meeting with organized labour.

This new wage is part of the government’s effort to improve the living conditions of workers across the country.
