House of Representatives Appoints Children of Former Governors as Committee Chairmen

During the Thursday plenary session, Speaker Tajudeen Abbas announced the constitution of 134 standing committees in the House of Representatives, and it has drawn attention as five children of former governors have been appointed as Chairmen of various committees.

The composition of the standing committees adheres to the constitutional provisions and house standing rules, granting the parliament the authority to exercise oversight functions on government agencies and programs and address specific issues of national importance through these committees.

The appointed children of former governors and their respective committees are as follows:

  1. Ibori Suenu, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) member from Delta, has been appointed as Chairman of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NNDC) committee. His father, James Ibori, was governor of Delta State between 1999 and 2007.
