Idoma dancers emerge second at Cherryfield College’s Cultural Day Celebration (PHOTOS)

The red and black traditional attire of the Idoma community was indeed the cynosure of all eyes yesterday at the 5th edition of the biennial Cultural Day Celebration of Cherryfield College, Jikwoyi, Abuja.
The Idoma cultural troupe emerged second at the fun-filled and remarkable event.
In his opening remark, the Chairman, Board of Directors, Cmdr. Emmanuel E. Ajenu (Rtd) said the biennial event is aimed at bringing the children closer to their respective cultures.
According to the Cmdr. Ajenu, it is very important for children to identify with their rich cultural heritage especially at this jet age that our cultures are going into oblivion.
Also speaking at the event, the Director Youth Development, Centre for Youth Development, Abuja, Mazi, Ereiodichukwu Anuluko (Osuofia), who was the guest lecturer, called on the need for parents to teach their children and wards indigenous languages.
Anuluko lamented the rate at which Nigerian culture are being allowed fade into cultural pot of time.
Among the cultures paraded at the event on Saturday were: Yoruba, Igbo, Hausa, Tiv, Idoma, South-South and Gbagi.
Yoruba community emerged winner at the event with their perfect display and sparkling attires. The children took guests back to the days of Songa, Obatala and Yeye Osun.
Interestingly, Idoma came second ahead of South South cultural troupe who won the bronze medal.
In her vote of thanks, the Vice Principal Admin, Mrs. Rose Idibia described the 2017 edition of the event as a huge success.
She lauded all the parents present for allowing the children identify with their cultures.
Behind the microphone was Idoma first son and ace comic merchant, Enenche Enenche (Comedian), who juiced up the event with his rib-cracking jokes.
