The immediate-past Deputy Governor of Benue state, Chief Stephen Lawani, OFR, has facilitated with the Benue Rebirth Movement (BRM) as the body organizes a rally today (11/03/2022), to press home the demand for a Benue state Governor of Benue South extraction.

In the goodwill message made available to the press on Friday (11/03/2022) by Sylvanus Okpe, the Director of Media and Communications to the Lawani Campaign Organization (LACO), Ochagwu K’Idoma, who is one of the leading aspirants for the Benue 2023 governorship election, from the Benue South district, lauded the leadership of BRM for their untiring efforts and tenacity in consistently bringing the plights of the Benue South people to the front-burner, insisting that it is not a crime anywhere to be a minority.

Part of the statement reads, “today as the Benue Rebirth Movement (BRM), once again, draws the attention of the world to the plight of Benue South people, their inability to produce Governor of Benue state since the over 46years of the creation of the state. I wish to congratulate the leadership of the BRM for their patriotism, tenacity and untiring efforts in consistently bringing our plight to the frontburner”.

“Given the over 46years of Benue’s existence and the fact that the Idoma nation doesn’t have any state aside Benue, i wish to state that Idoma Governor is long overdue. We are aware of the fears of our brothers from zones A and B of the state, but the assurances are high that a Benue state governor of Idoma origin has the potential of unlocking the hidden prospects of our state and offering purposeful leadership to Benue people. I have said it before that i strongly believe that if the Idoma nation is given the opportunity in 2023 to produce the governor of the state, we will work, work and work so that whenever there is leadership crisis in the future in Benue, our brothers from zones A and B will look upto to the Benue South district for leadership”.

“It is not a crime to be a minority anywhere in the world. Infact, as early as 1957, Nigeria as a country established a precedence that the nation takes minority fears very seriously. The creation of Sir Henry Willink Commission in 1957 to look into the concerns of the minority groups in Nigeria, shows that our foundation as a country was built on the tripods of justice, equity and fairness, Benue state must not be an exception“.

“As we rally today to drive home the yearnings and aspirations of the entirety of the Idoma people, i pray that God almighty bless all of us and grant us a successful rally that will translate to the actualization of a Benue state governor of Idoma extraction come 2023”.

Finally, Chief Stephen Lawani, OFR, assures BRM of his continued support and best wishes.
