In the wake of a recent call for the sacking of SGF George Akume by some individuals claiming to be Idoma elders, the people of Idoma have come forward to beg for forgiveness from the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
The controversy arose after the Idoma people of Benue State expressed concerns over their alleged sidelining in political appointments at both the federal and state levels of government, under President Bola Tinubu and Governor Hyacinth Alia.
IDOMA VOICE recalls that a coalition of Idoma professionals led by Hon. Inalegwu Adaje raised objections, stating that the recent ministerial nomination amounted to a serious violation of the 1999 Constitution’s section 14 subsection 3.
The coalition leader accused the SGF of deliberately sidelining other tribes in Benue and called on President Bola Tinubu to sack George Akume from his position.
However, in a recent meeting with Akume, some leaders from the Idoma community, many of whom are members of the APC, distanced themselves from the group that called for Akume’s removal. They disowned the so-called Idoma elders and labeled them as enemies of progress.
Among the APC chieftains present at the meeting were Nelson Alapa, Prof Enyi, Ameh Ebute, Peanut Ogbaje, Ada Chenge, Young Alhaji, Syva Ameh, and others.
The meeting was an attempt by these Idoma leaders to show their continued support for George Akume and to clarify that the previous call for his dismissal did not represent the sentiments of the entire Idoma community.
