IDOMA VOICE EDITORIAL: Benue APC crisis: Time to put state above party

The ongoing crisis within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Benue State has reached a boiling point, unsettling the state for months now.

At the heart of this turmoil is a power struggle between the governor and the state chairman, Austin Agada , which has plunged the party into disarray and overshadowed critical state issues.

In a bid to assert full control over party affairs, the governor has declared war on the state chairman, Austin Agada. This power struggle has escalated to the point where Agada was suspended by his ward exco in Owukpa, only to have the national body of the party nullify the suspension.

Subsequent attempts by the governor and his team to obtain injunctions from the court to restrain Agada from acting as chairman have been met with legal setbacks, with higher courts nullifying such actions over jurisdictional issues.

IDOMA VOICE NEWSPAPER finds this situation appalling, as the fight over party structure has taken center stage in Benue State. Media coverage is inundated with reports of the APC crisis, distracting attention from pressing state matters.

At a time when suspected herdsmen are terrorizing Benue residents in various parts of the state, including Apa, Agatu, Otukpo, and Ukum, the focus should be on ensuring the safety and security of citizens, not internal party squabbles.

It is imperative for members of the ruling party in Benue State to set aside personal interests and prioritize the peace and development of the state. Benue is above any individual politician’s ambitions, and the party must put its house in order.

The governor and APC members should redirect their energies towards addressing the pressing issues facing the state, rather than being consumed by internal power struggles.

The time has come for a ceasefire in the battle for control within the APC in Benue State. The stakes are too high to allow party infighting to continue unchecked.

The people of Benue deserve leadership that is focused on their welfare and security, not on internal power struggles. It is time for all stakeholders to come together, put aside their differences, and work towards a united and prosperous Benue State. Enough is enough.
