IDOMA VOICE POLL: David Mark or Dan Onjeh- Who should represent Benue South in the Senate?
Idoma, the second largest ethnic group in Benue State is set to witness another pulsating battle for its soul following the invalidation of the election of former Senate President, David Mark by he Appellate Court. In few moths time, electorates in Benue Zone C Senatorial District would storm the polls again to elect who represents them at the Upper Chamber of the National Assembly.
Before now, the former occupant of the highly revered seat, David Mark had spent 16 years on the throne -8 as a floor member and another eight as Senate President.
Before the last general elections, there were those who insisted that David Mark must be retained for his 5th term , while others are of the opinion that it is time to try new hands after 16 years of David Mark in the Senate. The battle is drawn along this line.
For those on the school of thought that retaining Senator David Mark, there is nothing a rookie can achieve in the Senate. He may not even make a chairman of any important committee. He may not understand the arcane rules of that august body.
He may not have the camaraderie engendered by long stay in the red chamber to have forged relationships across party lines to be able to bring the bacon home.
For those on the other side of the battle line, there is no red herring as great as the spurious reasons marshaled by the proponents of the continuity of David Mark.
There are those however, who strongly believe that this was the time for change.
From the foregoing, who do you think should represent the Zone at the senate in the forthcoming rerun?
