IGP bans use of dark glasses by police officers in uniform

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has issued a directive prohibiting police officers from wearing dark glasses while in uniform.
According to Naija News, this directive, effective immediately, was conveyed through a wireless message dated Tuesday, January 21, 2025, and sent to all zonal and state commands of the Nigerian Police Force.
The message, identified as CB:4001/IGP.SEC/ABJ/VOL.121/104 and acquired by SaharaReporters on Thursday, emphasized that violating this order would attract strict disciplinary measures.
The communique stated:
“INGENPOL has observed with concern x prevalent practice of personnel wearing dark glasses while in uniform x this attitude reflects poorly on the Force x deemed unacceptable x consequently x INGENPOL directs that henceforth all police personnel x should refrain from wearing dark glasses x while in uniform x violation of this directive will attract severe disciplinary action x you are to make this subject of lecture x.
