Members of the Benue Internal Revenue Service (BIRS) Taskforce, were yesterday attacked while on duty in Gboko Local Government Area of Benue State.
The taskforce while clearing and dismantling revenue check points along the Gboko – Ihugh road were attacked at Fiidi, Mbaagure,Ipav Gboko Local Government Area, while attempting to arrest operators of an Illegal check point.
Prior to the arrival of the taskforce, the illegal tax point operators had overturned a truck for refusing to pay illegal charges as stipulated by the check point operators.
The attack which was launched by the check point operator who could not be apprehended saw to the injury of two BIRS taskforce members and one police man. They also shattered the windscreen of one of the operational vehicles belonging to the taskforce.
In a related development, the taskforce also apprehended another culprit, one Terhide Tyoper AKA Ote at Chubu illegal tax point, Lessel, Ushongo Local Government Area.
