Rivers State, Nigeria – In a significant operation against oil-related crimes, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Rivers State Command, paraded twelve individuals allegedly involved in pipeline vandalism and illegal crude refining across the state.
Commandant Basil Igwebueze of NSCDC, while addressing the media at the Command Headquarters, revealed that the arrests were accompanied by the impoundment of five vehicles, including a commercial bus carrying 36,950 liters of AGO (Automotive Gas Oil) and 51,200 liters of crude oil.
The success of the operation signifies a clear departure from the previous norm, as Commandant Igwebueze emphasized that they are determined to put an end to such illicit activities that jeopardize the nation’s economic stability. He warned that strict legal actions await any individual found engaging in activities that threaten the country’s economic well-being.
Commandant Igwebueze further underscored that any personnel within the Command found aiding and abetting oil theft would face severe consequences, reaffirming the commitment to uphold integrity and accountability within the agency.
Highlighting the importance of collaboration in curbing crime, the NSCDC Commandant expressed their readiness to work alongside other law enforcement agencies to combat criminal activities within the state.
In addition to the crackdown on pipeline vandalism and illegal oil refining, the NSCDC Commandant revealed a new directive from the Commandant General, Ahmed Audi. The directive mandates the registration of all private guard companies in Rivers State, with non-compliant entities facing potential closure.
The NSCDC’s operation reflects their dedication to maintaining law and order, safeguarding national resources, and contributing to a more secure and prosperous society.
