No fewer than 500 houses, religious centres, and warehouses among other structures at the land swap infrastructure model corridor in the Zaudna community of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC). Have been demolished by the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA).
Muktar Galadima, the director of Development Control, disclosed to journalists that over 500 houses, warehouses, and religious centres were demolished during the weekend.
He said that the demolition was in continuation of clearing of illegal structures along the infrastructure corridor.
Galadima said only indigenous people could access compensation and would be paid, saying non-indigenes had been warned not to buy land from natives.
Also, the senior special assistant on Monitoring, Inspection, and Enforcement to the FCT minister, Comrade Ikharo Attah, also reiterated the fact that the compensation is meant for only Abuja indigenes.
“This is part of our activities around this district to clear the encroachment on the land swap infrastructure model, despite the rain. We want to appeal to people to understand that ‘illegality remains illegality.
“We are not disobedient to the creator, because when we came here and demolished worship centres, people cried and said we are disobedient to the creator, anything illegal is wrong and we are bound to remove them.
“There is no compensation at all for all the affected structures, because only non-indigenes live there, so there is no compensation earmarked at all. The village chiefs are all here even though the people allegedly said they sold the land to them,” he added.
