“I’m alive and strong” – Hilda Dokubo debunks death rumours

Veteran Nollywood actress Hilda Dokubo has debunked rumors of her death circulating online amid the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State.

Reports surfaced on Facebook claiming that Dokubo had passed away after allegedly being contracted by suspended Rivers State Governor Sim Fubara to organize and chair a rally on March 25, 2025. Some individuals were also said to have paraded her pictures while singing funeral songs.

Addressing the speculation in an Instagram Live session on Friday, Dokubo dismissed the claims, assuring her fans that she is alive, healthy, and undeterred by false reports.

“Everybody, this is me, healthy and strong. I’m not dead. I’m not dying now. I’m not afraid,” she stated. “Do you know how many times blogs have written that I died? Every second, every minute, they’re killing one actor or the other.”

She revealed that the rumors had caused distress among her loved ones, with some even visiting her elderly mother out of concern.

Dokubo also emphasized her commitment to speaking the truth about governance and politics, insisting that money is the least of her concerns. She dismissed allegations that she was bribed, stating, “Everybody, including Fubara, knows that I am not bribeable. If I were, I wouldn’t be where I am. I wouldn’t be on the side of truth.”

She further clarified that she had no involvement in organizing a rally, adding, “I love to dance. Every time I attend an event in my community, I dance. If you can’t find me dancing, you’ll find me making a speech. But I have no business organizing a rally to push a man.”

Dokubo condemned those spreading falsehoods, vowing to remain steadfast in her beliefs. “I am not a coward and never will be. No matter what they do, I will not change my position. But I want you to take this as a fact: I, Hilda, will never, ever wish death on anyone. Not even at my lowest.”
