Sen. George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), has clarified that he maintains a cordial relationship with Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia.
Akume made the statement last weekend during the burial ceremony of Chief Haar Orpin, chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Gboko.
Te SGF said the potential benefits that could accrue to the state if he and the governor collaborated in their efforts. He urged the populace to support both of them, highlighting the significance of collective efforts in delivering the dividends of democracy to the state.
Represented by Chief Simon Shango at the gathering, Akume paid tribute to the late Chief Orpin, an APC elders’ forum member who consistently stood by him throughout his lifetime. He regretted the loss of Orpin, especially during a time when his wise counsel would have been invaluable, and prayed for eternal peace for the departed soul.
Governor Alia expressed satisfaction with SGF Akume’s affirmation of their harmonious relationship. He assured that they would continue to collaborate peacefully for the betterment of the state. Alia commended the late Chief Orpin for his unifying character and devout Christian values, which served as a guiding light for the APC. The governor acknowledged the deceased’s efforts in fostering unity within the Jemgbagh community and his policy of an open-door approach, reflecting the wisdom of his counsel.
Alia restated his commitment to working in coordination with SGF Akume and other political leaders in the state to expedite the development of Benue State.
