Senate President Godswill Akpabio has denied any involvement in the sack of Senator Elisha Abbo from his position representing Adamawa North, as ruled by the Court of Appeal.
Contrary to Abbo’s claims implicating Akpabio in his removal, the Senate President vehemently stated that he has no motivation to pursue a witch-hunt against the ousted lawmaker.
Following his removal by the Court of Appeal, Abbo had pointed fingers at Akpabio, alleging that the Senate President had a hand in his ousting and identified four other senators as potential targets due to their opposition to Akpabio’s ascension to the Senate Presidency. Abbo specifically mentioned Senator Orji Uzor Kalu as the next supposed target.
In response, Akpabio accused Abbo of seeking a scapegoat to place blame upon. His media aide, Eseme Eyiboh, conveyed Akpabio’s position, stating, “It is unfortunate if he indeed claimed that Akpabio was behind his removal. Such accusations appear to be a desperate attempt to find scapegoats.”
Eyiboh went on to stress that the Court of Appeal makes decisions based on the provisions of the Electoral Act and evidence presented by petitioners, underscoring that the Senate President has no inclination to pursue a vendetta against fellow colleagues.
Abbo had been among the senators who supported Senator Yari during the campaign for the election of the Senate President. Stay tuned for further updates.
