Immigration officer, Akomolafe suspended amid drug trafficking charges

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has suspended Mr. Akomolafe Gbenga Michael, an officer stationed at Murtala Muhammad International Airport, over multiple charges of alleged drug trafficking.

Akomolafe is currently being arraigned at the Federal High Court in Lagos.

In a statement, the NIS Public Relations Officer, Deputy Comptroller of Immigration Kenneth Udo, stated that Akomolafe has been subjected to internal disciplinary processes and placed under suspension pending the outcome of the case. The case began in May, and the Service will refrain from making further comments until a verdict is reached to avoid sub judice.

“The Service fully supports the court proceedings to determine the extent of his culpability,” Udo said. “The Nigeria Immigration Service reaffirms its commitment to excellent service delivery, discipline, and zero tolerance for criminality. We will not hesitate to sanction any officer whose conduct contravenes these ideals.”
