The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) announced on Monday that it has initiated a formal investigation into a video circulating on social media, which shows a female traveler destroying a Nigerian Standard Passport at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos.

According to Service Public Relations Officer, DCI Kenneth Udo, the individual responsible for the incident has been identified and summoned for further questioning.

Udo stated that if the allegations are confirmed, the woman’s actions would violate Section 10(b) of the Immigration Act 2015 (as amended), which outlines specific penalties under Section 10(h) of the same Act.

The NIS reiterated its commitment to enforcing the Immigration Act to ensure national security and uphold the dignity and integrity of the country’s legal documents.
