Imo Governor, Uzodimma apologises for assault on NLC President, Ajaero

Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, expressed regret over the incident involving the assault on the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Joe Ajaero.

Ajaero was reportedly assaulted by individuals allegedly linked to Uzodinma in collaboration with the Imo State Police command. However, the Imo Police command refuted these claims, stating that they placed Ajaero in protective custody upon learning of a potential threat against the union leader.

In an interview on Channels TV’s Politics Today, Uzodimma described the attack on Ajaero as regrettable, emphasizing his and the government’s disapproval of violence. He extended an apology to the NLC president, urging a more civil approach to matters.

“I was unaware of the presence of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) president in my state. My immediate response was to condemn the action. I have never had any disagreement with the labor union. This incident is unrelated to my government. Regardless of Joe Ajaero’s position as NLC President, I wouldn’t wish such an incident on anyone. I must apologize as it occurred within my state.”

“As a Christian, I stand against violence. I cannot and will not condone it. Whatever occurred to Joe Ajaero in my state, which I was unaware of, resulting in his assault, must be regretted by both my government and myself.”

“Moving forward, I hope for a more civilized approach. A person from my state should address issues by engaging with me first before taking to the streets or making allegations.”
