Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma has called for a thorough and swift investigation into the recent hacking of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) website, which led to glitches during the release of candidates’ results.
The governor’s position was conveyed through the office of the Commissioner for Information, Public Orientation and Strategy, Declan Emelunba, following the arrest of 20 suspects by the Nigeria Police and Department of State Services (DSS) in connection with the incident.
Governor Uzodinma emphasized that the arrests are crucial not only to uncover the root cause of the breach but also to ease the tension that has gripped the nation due to the disruption.
He urged security agencies to expedite their investigations to identify all individuals responsible for hacking the JAMB website, which affected the results of over 370,000 candidates, predominantly from the Southeast region.
Through the Commissioner, Uzodinma stressed that a swift investigation and prosecution of the suspects would serve as a deterrent to potential future offenders.
Describing the incident as a national embarrassment, the governor called for urgent and decisive action to protect the integrity of Nigeria’s examination systems.
Uzodinma also commended the efforts of the security agencies and JAMB registrar, Ishaq Oloyede, for their dedication in safeguarding the credibility of the examination body.
