INEC releases official notice for Surulere Federal Constituency bye-election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Lagos State has officially released the notice for the upcoming bye-election in Surulere Federal Constituency I.

Adenike Oriowo, the INEC Public Affairs Officer in Lagos State, confirmed the publication on Friday, noting that the notice had been displayed at the commission’s headquarters in Sabo-Yaba since Thursday. The information has also been posted at the INEC Surulere Local Government Area Office, with activities and the election timetable already underway.

Oriowo emphasized that INEC is actively preparing to ensure strict adherence to the relevant laws and guidelines governing the poll. The commission is dedicated to delivering a credible bye-election in the Surulere Federal Constituency.

Recall that INEC had previously announced the schedule for re-run and by-elections in nine states, including the Surulere Federal Constituency in Lagos State, scheduled for Feb. 3, 2024.

According to the election timetable, party primary elections and the resolution of disputes stemming from them are set to take place between Jan. 5 and Jan. 9. Public campaigns by political parties will commence on Jan. 18 and conclude on Feb. 1.

The vacancy in the Surulere seat resulted from the resignation of the former occupant, Femi Gbajabiamila, who assumed the role of Chief of Staff following his appointment by President Bola Tinubu after a successful election.
