INEC to suspend first phase of voter registration in Benue
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Benue State has disclosed that the initial phase of the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise will come to a temporary stop on December 10, 2025.
This was announced in a statement signed by the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Prof. Sam Egwu, who called on residents and stakeholders to take note of the timeline.
“The first phase of Continuous Voter Registration, which began on August 25, 2025, will be suspended on December 10, 2025,” Prof. Egwu confirmed.
According to the REC, the suspension will usher in a seven-day public display of the preliminary voters’ register across all INEC local government area offices, as well as at the state headquarters.
The statement added: “Following this, the Preliminary Register of Voters will be available for claims and objections at the LGAs and state office from December 15 to December 21, 2025.”
INEC said the display period is meant to give eligible voters the opportunity to review their information, raise objections where necessary, and support efforts to sanitize the register ahead of the next stage of the CVR.
Prof. Egwu further announced that the second phase of the registration exercise is slated to commence on January 5, 2026.
He appealed to political parties, civil society groups, community heads, and the wider public to engage fully with the process and comply with the outlined schedule.
INEC reaffirmed its dedication to producing a clean, credible, and transparent register as preparations continue for upcoming elections.
