Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue state has stated that eight Local Government Areas (LGAs) in the state currently stand on the frontline of insecurity.
He has assured that his administration is diligently working towards bringing an end to this menace. This effort aims to facilitate the return of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) to their ancestral homes and enable farmers to resume their agricultural activities.
Governor Alia made these remarks over the weekend during his goodwill message at the wedding ceremony of the traditional ruler of the Kunav axis of the state, Ter Kunav, HRH Nyiyongo Achiaku, and his wife Betty Ayaka, held at the ECWA No.1 in Makurdi.
He appealed to traditional rulers in the state not to compromise on matters of insecurity but instead to collaborate with his government to address the challenges.
Expressing his concern for the situation, Governor Alia stated, “Eight LGAs in Benue State are facing insecurity issues, but my administration is committed to resolving these challenges and facilitating the return of displaced persons to their homes.”
The Governor also discussed the achievements of his administration, mentioning plans to upgrade public primary schools in the state to enhance the quality of education for Benue children.
He further emphasized his administration’s focus on revitalizing large-scale farming in the state. He assured, “Our administration will soon prioritize the development of rural areas by opening up feeder roads in local communities to improve access for our farmers.”
Reflecting on the wedding ceremony, Governor Alia expressed joy at witnessing the union between the Ter Kunav and the Mother of the Kunav nation.
He congratulated the couple, emphasizing that the bond between a man and a woman is a divine gift. He added that “every aspect of married life symbolizes the union with Christ.”
