Insecurity: Senate summons Buhari minister over kidnappers use of mobile phones

The Senate has ordered its Committees on Legislative Compliance and Communications to summon the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Ali Pantami over the alarming rate of insecurity in the country, including the continued use of mobile phones by kidnappers to negotiate ransom payment.

The Senate gave the directive during Wednesday’s plenary following a debate on a motion on the alarming rate of insecurity in the country.

Senator Emmanuel Bwacha, who sponsored the bill said, “the rate of insecurity in Nigeria has not only increased astronomically but has reached a melting point”.

He added that the challenge had manifested in kidnapping, banditry, armed robbery, assassination and other criminal activities in the land.

“The assassination of Nasarawa State All Progressives Congress (APC) chairman and other high profile cases are still fresh in our memories,” Senator Bwacha added.
