The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has clarified its stance, emphasizing that it is not seeking to negotiate with the Nigerian government concerning Biafra’s independence.

The group stated that the Biafra referendum is sacrosanct, and they are exercising their right to self-determination in line with the United Nations charter.

Emma Powerful, the spokesman for IPOB, highlighted that the United Nations charter upholds the right of Indigenous People to determine their political future when their rights are under threat. He reiterated that IPOB is prepared for dialogue whenever the Nigerian government is ready, but they do not view it as begging for negotiation.

In response to criticism following IPOB’s expression of readiness for dialogue, Powerful clarified their position, stating, “We never beg for dialogue or discussion with Nigeria, the options are left for them to decide.”

He urged people not to misinterpret their statement as a plea for dialogue, asserting that the Biafra referendum remains their priority and will proceed to achieve Biafra restoration and independence.

Powerful also addressed negative comments from some quarters, emphasizing that IPOB is steadfast in its commitment to peaceful dialogue and discussion, refuting any notion that they are resistant to peaceful resolution.
