Iran rejects US ceasefire offer, sets fresh conditions – Report
Iran has turned down a ceasefire proposal aimed at halting its ongoing conflict with the United States and Israel, according to state media reports released on Monday.
The development comes despite a strong warning from US President Donald Trump, who threatened to target key Iranian infrastructure.
State news agency IRNA reported that Tehran had communicated its position through Pakistan, outlining its response to the American proposal.
“Iran has conveyed to Pakistan its response to the American proposal to end the war,” the agency stated, without disclosing details of the offer or its sources.
“In this response set out in ten points Iran… has rejected a ceasefire and insists on the need for a definitive end to the conflict.”
Efforts are ongoing by several countries to broker peace after 38 days of hostilities triggered by joint Israeli and US strikes on Iran. Tehran has retaliated with missile attacks across various locations in the Middle East.
On Sunday, President Trump warned that failure by Iran to comply with demands by Tuesday evening including allowing unhindered maritime passage through the Strait of Hormuz would result in US strikes targeting critical infrastructure such as power facilities and bridges.
However, IRNA noted that Iran has put forward its own conditions, including “an end to conflicts in the region, a protocol for safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz, reconstruction, and the lifting of sanctions”.
