France international Jean-Clair Todibo has been summoned by the French football federation (FFF) to provide an explanation regarding an incident during a minute’s silence before a Euro 2024 qualifier last week.
Cameras captured the 23-year-old Nice defender, Todibo, laughing during the tribute dedicated to the victims of the conflict between Hamas and Israel. This solemn moment of silence also honored a teacher who tragically lost their life in a recent terrorist attack in Arras, northern France.
The minute’s silence occurred before France’s 2-1 victory over the Netherlands in Amsterdam on Friday. In response to this incident, the FFF’s national ethics council sent a letter to Todibo, requesting an explanation. Patrick Anton, the council’s president, confirmed this action to AFP.
Despite this controversy, Todibo remains part of the France team squad and is set to play in Tuesday’s friendly match against Scotland in Lille.
