The Israeli Ambassador to Nigeria, Michael Freeman, has assured the Benue State Government of Israel’s commitment to providing innovative technology to enhance the state’s education sector.

Freeman pledged on Friday during a visit to the headquarters of the Bureau for Education and Quality Assurance (BEQA) in Makurdi, alongside Governor Hyacinth Alia.

The envoy reaffirmed Israel’s support for improving education in Benue, commending BEQA’s efforts in enhancing learning quality across the state.

Governor Alia emphasized that the establishment of BEQA aligns with his administration’s vision for a transformed education sector. He praised the bureau’s Director-General, Terna Francis, and his team for their dedication and the significant progress achieved in a short period.

In his remarks, Francis stated that the visit was a continuation of ongoing discussions with the ambassador on Israel’s role in leveraging technology for efficient school monitoring and evaluation.

He noted that poor learning outcomes in the state were partly due to inadequate supervision of teachers, leading to truancy.

“The proposed technology will enhance monitoring processes without requiring physical presence in the field, ultimately improving teaching quality and learning outcomes,” Francis explained.

He added that the visit underscored the governor’s commitment to strengthening education at both basic and post-basic levels. The expected partnership with Israel is projected to significantly improve education standards in Benue.

During the visit, Francis led the delegation on an inspection of BEQA’s offices, explaining the bureau’s critical role in evaluating and standardizing education across the state.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that BEQA is responsible for the monitoring, evaluation, and standardization of schools in Benue. Under Francis’ leadership, the agency has inspected approximately 1,680 schools within the last 15 months.
